Can You Have Sex Appeal from the Platform? The Real Secret to Sex Appeal for Professional Speakers

This is a speaking engagement, not a Rihanna concert. Why do I need to have sex appeal to be on the stage? Have you ever heard the phrase “sex sells?” And sex appeal is actually defined as “immediate appeal or obvious potential to interest or excite others, as by appearance, style, or charm.” As a professional speaker, you will need immediate appeal to win over the audience. But don’t worry; you will not need to shake, shimmy, and twerk on stage to have sex appeal. The real secret is that you just have to learn to dress better.

First, you need to create the illusion of a pleasing body shape. As the song goes, “36-24-36.” You need to look like a brick house with an hourglass figure, and you can accomplish this without a plastic surgeon or ingesting a single kale leaf. All you need is a belt. Can you belt your jacket, cardigan, or dress? Adding a belt to a dress is also a great way to add a pop of color, a little personality, or a lot of edge to an outfit. You can take a basic black, solid-color sheath dress and add a leopard print belt to create an hourglass silhouette and a little intrigue so the audience is waiting to hear what you have to say. It also shows that you will not be one of those stuffy speakers that causes coffee sales to spike.

No professional speaker wants to have a video or image of themselves with arm flab blowing in the wind. Therefore, many of you will avoid any dresses, tank tops, short sleeve or sleeveless tops. No one has to see your arms. You can wear the outfit with a jacket or cardigan. A jacket or cardigan is not an add-on; it is part of the outfit. The completed look would be absent without it. Go into other areas of the department store or click on the website where your younger family members shop and find interesting and playful tops regardless if they have sleeves or not.

To add more sex appeal to your speaking wardrobe, you need to diversify the fabrics that you wear. You need to add some fabrics that have sex appeal, like mesh, sheer, and lace fabrics (notice these are all fabrics that show a hint of skin). This does not mean you should swap all of your speaker wardrobes for items found only in the lingerie department. But you must embrace the idea that your can wear sexy fabrics on the stage.

Remember that sex sells!
